The President may declare an additional public holiday or substitute another day for a scheduled holiday by proclamation. The legislation does not state an automatic substitute day when a holiday falls on a weekend.[1]
What to expect from services
The Bank of Tanzania lists its working days as Monday to Friday, except public holidays, so its offices do not follow their regular working-day schedule on New Year’s Day. That information applies to the central bank; it does not confirm the opening hours of every commercial bank.[4]
The Public Holidays Act does not set opening hours for shops, restaurants, public transport or other private services. Their New Year’s Day arrangements can therefore depend on the individual provider.
