Corpus Christi in Bosnia & Herzegovina
Corpus Christi, known locally as Tijelovo, is a Catholic feast focused on the Eucharist, or the Body and Blood of Christ. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, its status as a day off depends on the applicable local rules: a countrywide holiday law was proposed, but the proposal was rejected.[1][2]

The feast gives particular attention to the Catholic belief in Christ’s presence in the Eucharist. It is linked to the Last Supper, when Christians believe Jesus instituted the Eucharist.[3]

Article 9 of the Basic Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Holy See lists Corpus Christi among Catholic non-working days to be regulated by a separate law. The Council of Ministers’ proposal for a countrywide law included one day off for Catholics on Corpus Christi, but the Parliamentary Assembly records that the proposal was rejected. The agreement does not create a uniform day off across the country.[1][2]
Rules can differ by jurisdiction. For example, West Herzegovina Canton’s Civil Protection Administration says its canton’s law makes Corpus Christi a non-working day there. In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Labour Ministry says workers may take up to four working days of leave each calendar year for religious or traditional needs, with two days paid; this is a leave entitlement, distinct from a general public closure.[4][5]
Services and everyday plans
Where local rules declare the feast non-working, public offices and some other workplaces may close. The West Herzegovina notice specifies closure for administrative bodies, public enterprises and institutions, and other legal and natural persons carrying out activities in the canton. That local notice does not establish the schedule for every other part of the country.[4]
