Tonga’s Public Holidays Act lists Christmas Day and “the day immediately succeeding Christmas Day” as public holidays. Tonga Tourism identifies December 26 as Boxing Day, confirming the name used for the holiday in the country.[1][2]
The Act’s usual substitute-day rule excludes the day after Christmas. That means the rule does not automatically move Boxing Day to a Monday when December 26 falls on a weekend. The Act also says Cabinet may direct stores and other businesses in specified towns to close on a public holiday, but it does not itself require every shop to close.[1]
