The Act provides for a substitute public and bank holiday when a listed holiday falls on a Sunday. Its other weekday substitution rule applies to specified holidays falling Tuesday through Friday; neither provision sets a substitute day when Holy Saturday falls on Saturday.[1]

Under the Labour Act, workers generally cannot be required to work on a public holiday, though statutory exemptions apply to some roles and workers. Eligible workers paid by the month or week cannot have wages deducted for public-holiday time not worked. The Act sets one-and-a-half times ordinary pay for work on most public holidays, including Holy Saturday, when it falls on a scheduled workday; different rules and exemptions also apply.[4]
