Date and legal status
The Public Holidays and Bank Holidays (Jersey) Act 2010 sets the last Monday in May as a public holiday. The Government of Jersey uses the name “Spring Bank Holiday” in its official calendar. Because the day is always a Monday, the standing rule does not specify a separate substitute day for this holiday.[1][2]
The framework comes from the Public Holidays and Bank Holidays (Jersey) Law 1951. It authorizes the States to appoint public and bank holidays, and provides that a public holiday is also a bank holiday unless the appointing Act says otherwise. Under the 1951 Law, banks must close on bank holidays, subject to a specific order allowing or requiring them to open.[3]
