Good Friday is observed on the Friday of Holy Week, before Easter Sunday, and commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. For Christians, it is a solemn day within the Easter observance.[4]

Its municipal account connects local processions and devotion to the area’s colonial-era religious heritage, including traditions centered on the Cristo Negro. Public holiday and work rules

Article 46 of Panama’s Labor Code lists Good Friday as a mandatory rest day. MITRADEL says the rule applies to public entities nationwide and to private-sector businesses and activities. Workers required to work on a national day of mourning are entitled to the statutory premium; MITRADEL describes this as a 150% surcharge for private-sector work, with a compensatory day.[1]

MITRADEL has also explained that changes to the Labor Code removed the provision for automatic transfer of mandatory rest days to a nearby Monday. Good Friday itself is listed as the day of rest; the legal status does not mean every business or service follows an identical opening schedule.[5]
