Norfolk Island’s Employment Act public-holiday list includes the Sovereign’s birthday holiday. A 2016 Australian Government release said the public-holiday ordinance combined holidays under the Commonwealth Fair Work Act with holidays previously in Norfolk Island’s Employment Act, while retaining Bounty Day and other island holidays.[1][3]

For employees covered by Australia’s National Employment Standards, a public holiday brings a right to be absent from work, subject to the applicable rules. Full-time and part-time employees who do not work are generally entitled to their base pay for ordinary hours they would have worked; an employer may request work only where the request is reasonable.[4]
