Saint-Martin is an overseas collectivity on the French part of the island. French laws and regulations generally apply there unless a matter is reserved to the collectivity or falls within its specific powers; the Labour Code lists Toussaint among France’s legal holidays.[1][2]

The holiday is fixed on November 1. The Labour Code article naming Toussaint does not set out a separate transfer rule.[2]

A public holiday does not automatically give every employee the day off. For holidays other than May 1, the Labour Code says a workplace agreement or, failing that, a branch agreement defines which days are not worked. Employees should check their own work arrangements.[3]

In the Catholic calendar, All Saints’ Day is a solemnity for the saints. The feast’s date became November 1 in Rome from the ninth century, after earlier Christian observances had taken place on different dates.[4]

The Collectivity describes its public cemeteries as places of remembrance and heritage, including older graves with historical interest.[5]

The public-holiday listing alone does not confirm that every office, bank, shop, restaurant, or transport service closes. Because working arrangements and opening hours can differ, residents and visitors should check directly with their employer or the service they plan to use; the Labour Code places the choice of non-working holidays in workplace or branch agreements.[3]
